HUSHH-UPS® - Teachers

No one knows better than you how dynamic and noisy classrooms of today can be. The volume of your normal speaking voice is approximately 65 db. The noise of a chair scraping on an uncarpeted floor is 85 db, which significantly exceeds the volume of your voice. The result for you and your students is a distracting teaching and learning environment which can be nerve-racking.

The negative effects of noise on learning are well documented. A child’s audiological system does not fully mature until the age of 13-15 years. This means that listening, concentrating and working with background noise is more difficult for all children. Most classes today include many children who have additional challenges to their ability to learn. Students with hearing impairments, behavioural and attentional problems, speech and language disorders, learning disabilities, English as a second language, PDD-Autism or developmental delays have a more difficult job in coping with noisy environments.

On a personal level, teachers have noticed that constant chair noise is very tiring. When speaking all day at a high volume level, many teachers report physical and vocal fatigue. Teaching is a challenging career in and of itself. Coping with needless chair noise can be irritating and compromises the all-important learning environment. Chair noise can be eliminated.

In a classroom outfitted with Hushh-ups® the chair noise drops to a barely audible level. The difference is dramatic. Many of the teachers who have Hushh-ups® in their classrooms remark that they can’t believe the change and never again want to teach a class without the benefit of Hushh-ups®.
