HUSHH-UPS® - Principals

Classrooms of today are, by nature, noisy environments. Not all sources of noise in the classroom can be remedied. The removal of carpets due to hygienic and maintenance issues has exacerbated the problem, resulting in constant noise created by chairs scraping across uncarpeted floors. This source of noise can be controlled by using Hushh-ups®.

Hushh-ups® decrease the chair noise to a barely audible level. Research has consistently shown that noise has a negative impact on learning. Specialists in learning and hearing have demonstrated that even in a classroom that has an above average acoustic setting, grade one children can understand only 66% of a teacher’s words. When chair noise is eliminated, a significantly improved learning situation is created for all children.

Most classrooms today include many children who have additional challenges to their ability to learn. Students with hearing impairments, behavioural and attentional problems, speech and language disorders, learning disabilities, English as a second language, PDD-Autism or developmental delays have a more difficult job in coping and learning within noisy environments.

Another important benefit of Hushh-ups® is the reduced level of necessary floor maintenance in classrooms outfitted with Hushh-ups®. The soft cushion provided between the chair leg and the floor decreases the amount of damage that occurs from the chairs. Black marks, scratches, and gouges to the tiles are eliminated. Over time, this results in cost savings by decreasing maintenance time and replacement materials.

Hushh-ups® are designed to last. A survey of educators demonstrated that over 90% rated the durability of Hushh-ups® as “Excellent/Very Good”. 95% of the survey respondents rated Hushh-ups® as “Excellent” in performance areas such as noise reduction, product longevity, and floor care.
